Te Haumako \ Whats on \ Massive Theatre Company: Foundations Workshop
30 Jul 2023 - 31 Jul 2023
Working across two days, suitable for all levels of experience, Foundations is an energising, playful workshop designed to introduce participants to Massive’s iconic theatrical style and inspire them about the possibility of a career in the arts. Massive has strong connections to Rotorua, running many workshops in the area over the years and is so excited to continue this mahi with Sir Howard Morrison Centre.
Participants may be taking part in drama classes at school, university or have done some acting in the past - but even if they haven’t, these workshops are suitable for all levels of experience. They will learn how to make exciting performance pieces using their own stories and ideas using Massive’s unique style of theatre-making. Rangatahi will also learn how to form great connections with other actors and an audience, helping them to develop as dynamic performers who people love to watch on stage.
It's really important you’re able to attend both days in full (no late arrivals, leaving early or missing any days) as the activities you will do build across the two day workshop. To fully experience what Massive does you need to be there for the whole time. Do the mahi, get the treats!
Sam Scott is the founder and Artistic Director of Massive Theatre Company. She has been directing and teaching in New Zealand and internationally for over 30 years. Sam has a passion for acting, devising, building community through telling stories, and helping young people to find a sense of self and confidence through theatre.
Max Palamo joined the company at the age of 16, performing in several Massive productions including ‘The Sons of Charlie Paora,’ which toured to London’s Royal Court Theatre in 2004. An accomplished actor on both stage and screen (credits include roles in TV’s ’Super City II,’ and Auckland Theatre Company’s ‘Sons’), Max recently performed in the stage and digital productions of Massive’s show ‘Half of the Sky,’ written by Lennie James.
