Ko Te Whakaruruhau he ‘āhuru’, he ‘wharau’ rānei mō ngā manuhiri, mō te hunga hoki ka whai wāhi mai ai ki tō tātou whare. I te marae, e kīia ana hoki te wharenui he whare whakaruruhau - arā, hei wāhi ārai atu i te hau, hei tomonga māu i te makariri. Ehara kau noa tēnei i te whare mō ōna uri, engari he whare tēnei mō te manaakitanga, mō ngā ratonga, mō ērā hoki ka kuhu mai i raro i te tuanui o te Sir Howard Morrison Centre.
Te Whakaruruhau is a ‘lean to’ or ‘shelter’ for our guests and those who have booked the space. Within a marae, the wharenui is referred to as a whare whakaruruhau – meaning a place that dissipates the wind. A place to come in from the cold. This is not just a shelter for our people, but a shelter for manaakitanga (hospitality), ratonga (service) and those who enter beneath the tuanui (roof) of the Sir Howard Morrison Centre.
