About us \ News \ The Big Sing Candenza concert to be held in Rotorua in August
The New Zealand Choral Federation (NZCF) is proud to present the 4th annual Upper North Island Big Sing Cadenza, a part of The Big Sing 2023, the country’s largest choral festival. The event will take place at the Sir Howard Morrison Centre, Rotorua on August 14 & 15 and feature performances by twelve of the top secondary school choirs from the Upper North Island.
The Big Sing is a celebration of choral music, bringing together some of the best young singers to perform and compete in a series of regional and national events. Cadenza combines the excitement of a competitive, Finale-style event with the extra dimension of massed workshops, featuring an international choral specialist who also acts as adjudicator. Two days of adjudicated sessions culminate in a Gala concert on Tuesday evening.
“We’re excited to showcase the exceptional talent and dedication of our young singers at Cadenza,” said NZCF Waikato-BOP Chair, Jenny Lewy. “Choral music has the power to inspire and uplift and we know that our performers will leave a lasting impression on everyone who attends.”
Cadenza will feature a range of performances, including traditional, contemporary, and classical choral works. Choirs selected to attend come from Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and Rotorua. The choirs will be judged by Andrew Withington, who will evaluate their vocal technique, musicality, and overall performance.
“We’re looking forward to two days of exceptional choral music and inspiring performances,” said Lewy. “NZCF’s The Big Sing is a highlight of the choral calendar and we’re proud to support the next generation of New Zealand’s musical talent.”
Session times are as follows:
Monday 14 August - 11am and 2pm; Tuesday 15 August 10am and 11:45am.
The Gala Concert will take place at 7pm on Tuesday 15 August.
